new pics

It's been a long and trying week. Cate's been running fever due to sore throat, teething, and allergies. Also, for reasons I won't go into here, we are looking for a new daycare. I share all of this just so you can send prayers our way.

Now on to some cuteness!
Check out those chompers.

Looking all grown up...

Daddy's hair makes a good handle bar, don't you think?

my new favorite place

Santa Elena Canyon was one of those places that instantly makes you feel smaller, nostalgic, and like you're 7 years old again. The rock walls stretch endlessly toward the sky while small children splash in the Rio Grande at its feet. Upon entering the grand presence of the canyon, it felt as if there was nothing else in the world to do but slosh in its mud, climb its immense boulders, and explore its shoreline laced with sand and giant cattails. In short, it was wonderful, and I'm pretty sure there's a small section of heaven that looks exactly like this.

As we were leaving, we saw this painter readying his easel to paint the sunset. Until we meet again, S.E. Canyon, I will think of you with a sigh and a smile.

texas is not flat...i have proof!

Our Big Bend vacation was lovely. Two whole nights away from Cate was tough, but we managed. It was so nice to visit a new place, hike and camp, and get to just be together. I actually took some pictures this trip, so most of the ones on this blog are from my camera. Cory will post some of his, too.
Here is the view from our longest hike, the South rim trail of the Chisos Mountains.

Another peak in the park. The white mound looks like sand, but it is actually hardened ash. Half of the park was created from volcanic activity. I had to check out the white mounds, so I got out of the car and ran on top of one. Hard as a rock!

This was one of my favorite parts of the hike.

As we walked along the trail, we realized we were being spied on. Check out this guy's little horns!

More pics to come of my favorite part of the trip!

11 months

Gosh, it's hard to believe that she's already 11 months old. We are celebrating the arrival of a new friend, Elisha Irwin, and as we visited Garrett and Lori in the hospital I couldn't help but reminisce. I'll save all the memories for next month's post, but I'll just say that this has been the most dramatic year of my life. In a good way.
Now, on to the princess herself (or the drama queen, as the daycare calls her). She has learned that she can make quite a racket with the cabinet doors, and she creates impromptu beats and dances with them.

She got this balloon for Valentine's Day from Grandi and Opa, and she loved it so much! She played with it until it just collapsed into a sticky, slobbery, worn-out pile of goo. She wanted to hug it...
and kiss it!

She has enough hair now that it is sometimes messy when she wakes up from a nap.

And, of course, she is still the picture of absolute cuteness. For further proof of that, pictures of her fish face on Daddy's blog are hysterical!

And the new drama of the month: teething! Wish us luck with that one. :)
